LUPPITT HONITON DEVON
Riggles Farm in the last two years, we have had support from an enormous number of people, contributing in a huge variety of ways. This includes the design, delivery, building and installations in the six buildings on site. The Lady Gardeners have created a piece of paradise from a neglected wilderness with crumbling weed covered ponds.

We enjoyed taking part in the C4 s, Relocation, Relocation Programme.
Without Kirsty Allsops suggestion we would never have discovered East Devon. We appreciated all the production team did in helping us find the ideal location.

Local residents living in LUPPITT whom appeared on the ITV Programme RE - LOCATION have this past two years been upgrading their home and creating an ECO FRIENDLY holiday location.

HONITON NEWS HONITON TOWN MAYOR ELECTED 2008

It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Cllr Chris Tratt, elected Town Mayor in May 2008. Chris died recently following major heart surgery, and his  death has left the town and his colleagues, both on the Town Council and  at EDDC, in shock.

Born in Honiton, Chris has always had enormous pride in his home town and worked assiduously to make it a safe and welcoming place in which to live and work. He spent many years as a "Special" and the experience gained in this field enabled him to take a proactive and informed part in acquiring CCTV facilities for the town.

Chris was a giant among men; the many tributes which have poured in to the Press, to the Town Council Offices and individually to his friends , show the immense regard in which he was held by all sections of the community..
he will be greatly missed.

Comments by Town Councilors.
The unique nature of Honiton High Street would be taken away from the town,it has happened in other parts of the UK.Once the attraction of the varied High Street of shops and business has gone it would affect tourism and other town attractions. One thousand people signed a petition against the new superstore. Eight hundred and fifty eight letters. Current Store Plans rejected. Every Little Helps.

Locals can't afford Chef's Prices.

That's what the Axminster Town Centre Shoppers are saying about the new River Cottage local produce Market and Cafe in Trinity Square opened by television star Hugh Fearnly-Whittingstall.In creating a local alternative to the multinational supermarkets we know that we cannot always compete with their prices. We can suceed in offering genuinely local seasonal quality produce and are building a long term commitment working with local farmers and producers by paying them a fair price for their produce.

The 750th Anniversary events in HONITON TOWN centre went off well with the great organisation by local members of the Honiton Chamber of Commerce and dedicated assistance from The Honiton Museum and St Pauls Church and so many others including the deputy Mayor and the Mayor Vernon Whitlock.

Luckily the weather held off for most events except the Charter re-enactment which had to go ahead in St Pauls Church at very short notice.

The "Honiton Guide" media man Michael Parkin has been around the town centre all week dedicating his time in collecting the photo images to mark this historic event in Honiton Town Centre marking the 750th celebrations.

[ SHIPPING DISASTER "NAPOLI" off Sidmouth January 2007 ]

EAST Devon and Dorset residents have a unique chance to get up close and personal with a 190 million-year-old marine reptile.

An ichthyosaur fossil found near Charmouth in West Dorset will be on show in a display travelling throughout the Jurassic Coast over the next 12 months. The first chance to see the display will be at Lyme Regis Fossil Festival this weekend - a mere four kilometres from where the fossil reptile was originally discovered.

The fossil was unearthed two-and-a-half years ago by Dr Paul Davis from the Natural History Museum, where the ichthyosaur now resides as part of the national collection. Since its discovery, Museum experts have carefully conserved and prepared the ichthyosaur for a return (at least temporarily) to its former home along the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. The specimen was found in an unusual location for this type of ichthyosaur and may yet prove to be a new species.

Dr Paul Davis, from the Natural History Museum, said: "It's a real thrill to see the ichthyosaur going on show for the first time, so near to where it was found. The Jurassic Coast holds a wealth of stories about life millions of years ago and this display highlights how new finds are continually adding to our understanding of the fossils already looked after by the Museum."

The ichthyosaur display will be in the Marine Theatre in Lyme Regis from 4-6 May and will then move to the Lyme Regis Community Resource Centre for two weeks, followed by spells in both Seaton and Sidmouth libraries. The tour will then continue in East Devon until the autumn, and then back to Dorset until next May. The full list of venues will be confirmed soon and each will be well publicised locally.

Dr Sam Rose, from the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Team, said: "We are looking to put this excellent display into venues in which you might not normally expect to see this type of thing, such as libraries. We are hoping people will go in for a book or a CD and come out understanding a bit more about the history of the Earth."

Councillor Margaret Rogers, Devon County Council Executive Member for Environment, said: "This is a great opportunity for residents in the two counties to see such a rare and fascinating fossil, which is part our local history. We're incredibly privileged that the Natural History Museum will be touring East Devon with this display and I hope that people will make the most of the chance to see it for themselves."

The display will feature the fossilised skeleton of the ichthyosaur with two accompanying panels of information about the Jurassic Coast and the fossils that are found there, as well as how the Natural History Museum works on this coastline. It will also provide an opportunity to highlight local museums and visitor centres where people can find out more about the outstanding and globally important natural heritage of their coastline.
The display is part of a long-term partnership between the internationally renowned museum and the Steering Group for Dorset and East Devon's natural World Heritage Site - the Jurassic Coast. It is fitting that the fossil will make its return to the coast at the Lyme Regis Fossil Festival, another collaboration where world-class experts from the Museum will be on hand to identify fossils, talk about why they form and what they can tell us about the development of life on Earth.

Honiton Guide will shortly be showing "virtual 360" scenes around Honiton.
